I heard about gold in California from a newspaper and decided I would go and try to find some gold with my family to try to get my fortune.

Which way should I go?  I went the way through the Panama jungles.  To get there, I bought the supplies, and I started planning.

It was hard work.  My hands felt numb from the cold water, and some days we had no food.  We decided to build a lot cabin because we knew we would be there for a long time.

I panned for a year, but I only found a little bit of gold, so I decided to stop panning.  I decided to stop trying to find gold, but I decided to live in California now.
